Jharkhand State Open University (JSOU) was established under the Jharkhand State Open University Act of 2021, which was passed by the Jharkhand Assembly on November 23, 2021. As the state’s inaugural open university, JSOU offers a diverse array of distance education programs, including certificates, diplomas, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees. Operating across the entire state of Jharkhand, JSOU is committed to providing high-quality education through its network of 16 schools.
Jharkhand State Open University (JSOU) is headquartered in Ranchi, Jharkhand. To fulfil its mission, the university establishes Regional Centres and Study Centres across the state, utilizing existing infrastructure from Government, Constituent, and Affiliated Colleges, as well as other higher education institutions.
JSOU’s study programs are carefully curated to meet the diverse learning needs of knowledge seekers. The university ensures that students can learn at their own pace and convenience. Despite financial constraints, JSOU strives to keep the cost of education affordable, allowing educationally disadvantaged sections to benefit from its programs through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode. With a focus on professional and job-oriented courses, JSOU regularly updates its curriculum and study materials, incorporating tools from Information Technology.
